This superb 1965 Ford GT40 Replica (Tornado) is a reconstruction of the rare Mirage GT40 and is of the highest specification.
In the 1960’s, Mirage built 3 original GT40 lightweights, the most famous of which was the one driven by the late Steve McQueen. In its debut at Spa, in May 1967, the legendary endurance racer Jacky Ickx and the “Flying Dentist”, Dr Dick Thompson, finished first overall. It was the first win for any car in this colour and livery. The original car sold in 2012 for a record $11million at RM Auctions.
It is finished in powder blue and marigold with Mirage GT40 Gulf livery. Powered by a superb Ford 302 V8 engine. Receipts show the build by EDA that include Edelbrock aluminium performance heads and a bundle of snakes exhaust system. Furthermore, there are 4 sets of twin choke down draft webber carburettors and special inlet manifold.
Featuring knock-on alloy wheels with spinners and lock pins. There is a built-in fire extinguisher system and air conditioning.
Additionally, twin polished fuel caps for the twin fuel tanks with twin gauges. Rare removable door tops enable open top motoring!
Inside sees GT40 style seats, correct dashboard layout, classic gauges, Willans harness seatbelts and a GT40-style steering wheel. Chrome bullet mirrors complete the stylish look.
All in all, this 1965 Ford GT40 Replica (Tornado) is a stunning recreation of a very rare car.
